Storing furniture without scratches, dents or mildew
Clean it, take it apart, cover it with breathable fabric and keep it off the floor. How to store furniture so it comes out the way it went in.

Furniture takes up the most space in a unit and gets damaged the most often. A few extra minutes on moving day prevents almost all of it.
Before you load
Vacuum upholstery and wipe down wood and metal
Let everything dry completely
Remove legs, table leaves and bed frames and bag the hardware
Tape the hardware bag to the piece it belongs to
Cover it the right way
Use moving blankets, old sheets or furniture covers. Avoid wrapping wood or leather tightly in plastic for long stays: it traps moisture.
Stack with care
Sofas stand on end only if the frame allows it. Mirrors and framed art go on their sides, never flat. Put chairs seat-to-seat and keep drawers light so they don’t sag.
